Museu das Marionetas
Description
The Porto Puppets Museum is a space within the Porto Puppets Theatre and was opened in 2013, the year in which this company also celebrated 25 years existence.
An old dream of the founder of the institution, João Paulo Seara Cardoso, who was unfortunately no longer alive when the museum was launched, it gives visitors a glimpse of the off-stage life of puppets.
It brings together 1,200 pieces, including puppets, props and backdrop scenery, which have over the years been produced and built. Given that for every show, new puppets are created, the museum’s collection is constantly being updated.
Housed in an old 3-storey building, in the historic centre of Porto, the museum has a private gallery on the ground floor that is reserved for the works of guest artists and on the remaining floors, one can see the company puppets, which are housed next door at the Belmonte Theatre.
