Description
The Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Patrocínio was built in the second half of the eighteenth century and is located in the Ribeira do Porto area, very close to the Lada Elevator. This baroque church used to be near the old city jails.
The Recolhimento do Ferro (a religious charity) moved here from its Rua Escura location. The Recolhimento do Ferro name comes from an iron (ferro) beam that crossed the door of this simple church and it was said that convicts who could reach it were not executed.
The church, which is owned by the Catholic Church, is closed to the public.
