Capela da Nossa Senhora do Ó
Description
The former chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, or Cais, in the heart of the Ribeira do Porto, dates from the seventeenth century. Its current name is due to the fact that the image of the Senhora do Ó was transferred here from the chapel of Porta da Ribeira, which was demolished in 1821.
The Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Ó was remodeled in the nineteenth century because of damage suffered during the wars of independence.
Inside, notice the carved altarpiece of the early eighteenth century by João da Costa. The chapel is not exactly open to the public, but can be visited in September during the Feast of Nossa Senhora of O.
