Igreja de São Pedro de Miragaia

The parrish of Miragaia used to be a community of fishermen, so it is not surprising that the church is named after their patron saint, the fisherman São Pedro (Saint Peter). A church has stood in this location since the Middle Ages. The Church of São Pedro of Miragaia has undergone major changes in its architecture in the 1730’s. Its chapel is totally covered with gilt wood carvings, where you can see artistic expressions of different eras such as King João V style, Rococo and National style. Some architectural elements were reclaimed from the former Convent of Monchique. It is worth taking a few seconds to admire the Flemish triptych representing the Pentecost. The walls were covered with tiles between 1863 and 1876.
