Igreja da Nossa Senhora da Conceição
Description
The Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição was built between 1938 and 1947. It has a monumental granite façade, with two massive towers, one more than 50 metres high, and a front yard with white and black pavement. In the church, look for the set of nine stained glass windows representing nine choirs of Angels and the chime with eighteen bells.
You can climb the tallest of the two towers. Upstairs, visitors have one of the highest panoramic views of the city and one can actually see beyond the center of Porto, to the mouth of the Douro River, and to the city of Vila Nova de Gaia. The staircase is magnificent and you’ll climb past the clock mechanism and the tower bells.
The Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição welcomes visitors in Portuguese, English, and French.
